Skylar Neese was a teenager who went missing on July 6, 2012, from her home in West Virginia. Her disappearance led to a massive search effort, but her body was not found until January 16, 2013, when her two former friends, Rachel Shoaf and Shelia Eddy, confessed to the murder.
The motive for the murder is still unclear, but it is believed that Shoaf and Eddy had planned the murder for months and lured Skylar out of her home, where they stabbed her to death. The case gained national attention because of the ages of the girls involved and the deliberate planning of the murder.
Shoaf and Eddy were both charged with first-degree murder and sentenced to prison, with Shoaf receiving a 30-year sentence and Eddy receiving a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 15 years. The case remains a tragic example of youth violence and the often-hidden world of teenage cruelty and bullying.
